Words alone fail to describe the magnificent landscape of Grand Canyon, which has awed and inspired generations of beholders who are fortunate to witness nature and its effect at their grandest scale. Standing at over a mile high, the cliffs of Grand Canyon express the power of nature in its rawest sense, retelling the story of the once mighty Colorado River running through the heartland of ancient America. During this three day, two night camping trip, we will camp at Mather Campground and hike to Plateau Point to take in the full view of the Colorado River and its grand work of art. We tried everything to describe this amazing adventure to you, but seeing is believing.

Itinerary

Day 1: We will meet at the Student Recreation and Fitness Center at 8am on Friday morning to pack up the van and make sure we all have the proper gear and attire for a successful trip. Our drive is roughly 442 miles (7-8 hours) with stops for lunch, dinner and fuel. Upon arrival in Grand Canyon National Park we will catch one of the best the sunsets in the world from Hopi Point along the rim. Then we will find our campsite in Mather Campground to set up camp. The rest of the night is left for relaxing around the fire and getting ready for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: We will wake up early on Saturday for a quick breakfast. Our adventure will start on the Bright Angel Trail where we will hike down the canyon towards Plateau Point (~12 miles / ~19 km round trip). The elevation loss/gain is roughly 3000 feet/900 meters, which means the trail is steep. After our day hike, we will arrive back to the rim where we will visit the Verkam’s Visitor Center to learn more about the canyon. From there, we will head back to camp to cook dinner and get some sleep.

Day 3: Sunday morning, we will be making breakfast at 800am. Our itinerary for the day starts at the Grand Canyon Village Visitor Center.  From there we will walk to Mather Point (0.2 miles) for a great lookout point of the canyon and a short walk to Observation Studio and the visitor center one last time. We plan to depart after lunch at noon for our drive back home with dinner and gas stops as necessary.
