Angie is a a self-proclaimed intellectual bum, she loves reading, writing and learning almost about anything. She's a double major in Spanish Literature and Spanish Communications with a minor in Script Writing here at CSUSB, but when asked what she wants to do with her multiple degrees, she will simply shrug and say "I don't know yet" (hence the intellectual bum). Passionate about what she studies, get her talking about Latin America or Spain and you may never get her to shut up. Angie loves to travel, and has some pretty crazy stories about her travels abroad. She's also involved in Outdoors and has been hiking, camping, and rappelling since she was very young, which has led her to her new love of rockclimbing. If she's not working at the rock wall, she's hanging out at the rock wall. And if she's not there, chances are you will find her at Starbucks, feeding her caffeine addiction, reading, writing, daydreaming and people watching.
David Dysart is most certainly one of our tallest Climbing Wall Staff, having been growing for 22 years now without missing an inch. When he manages to drag himself away from the rock wall, he is either hanging out with friends or working on his Psychology degree. Contrary to the many peer reviewed journals that have studied the subject, he is unable to read minds and will not be able to help you out with your relationships (it took us a while to verify this). Seeing as how he is coming off a recent publication in The Sand Canyon Review, you may also see him sitting in a corner obsessively writing. If all this fails, and you are still unable to track him down doing any of those things, you can try his mentor, Waldo, or his emergency contact, Carmen Sandiego. They should be on the Climbing Wall... somewhere.
Blanca is a closet Hippie Nihilist conundrum that studies just about everything (except psychology). She is a philosophy wizard whose ideas and musings make the works of Descartes, Hume, and Locke seem trivial, yet she is very shy in class. Despite this shyness, her studies in Anthropology has awakened her desire to travel and go on grand adventures to far flung places, but to date has been too lazy to get a passport. During her time as a geologist, she learned the skills required to tell what a rock is thinking, which is surprisingly helpful in climbing, which has led her to her new hobby and this job. In her free time she tends to be lost in deep thought in the library or is on the internet completely zoned out. It could go either way.
Mike, is one of our wisest (oldest) members though he may look like a youngster. He loves meeting new people and enjoys the company of others. He is hoping to use his people skills to someday care for others as a Nurse. He is excited to meet new people and get them excited about the climbing life style. In his down time from school and work, he enjoys being an active in outdoor activities and spending time with his 6 roommates. He's a super friendly guy, so don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with him! Random fun facts; 1. He lives in a castle and enjoys it so much that he had it tattooed on his leg. Just ask him about it. 2. Mike lived in Mexico to study the Bible and learn Spanish.
Trish is a hard core vegetarian snowboarder who rock climbs to pass away the long summer months. She cares deeply about the enviornment and is constantly trying to recycle and conserve what she can. She is also the head route setter for the Climbing Wall. Like one of our routes? Dislike one of our routes? Let Trisha know! She loves the feedback.
Trish is also a math major with limited fluency in Spanish. She hopes to graduate in 2012 and someday teach high school math in Big Bear.
Kate is a Kinesiology major concentrating in exercise science and has dreams of becoming an athletic trainer for the Paralympics. In February 2011, fellow climbing wall staff member David Dysart dragged Kate down to the Rec Center to climb. Since then, she's never left, or at least that is how it seems. She spent a whole quarter climbing at least three days a week, from opening to closing. The climbing wall is her home away from home. Come to climb and Kate will gladly belay you, whether working or not. You will find her constantly challenging herself with combination climbs.
Becca is one of our most valued staff. She's got a great personality and a passion for climbing that extends beyond the CSUSB rock wall over the mountains and through the hills. She's also passionate about bears. She LOVES bears! Ever since a child when she was taken and raised by them, she has always considered herself a bear lover. We are unsure how this effects her relationship with her teddy bears at home. She HATES the word "terrible". She simply cant stand it when people say it. Besides this, Becca fits into the Rec Center staff wonderfully.
